"I-R is line of sight. My part is pretty complex and an infra-red oven won't work." | Infra-Red energy is exactly what we get from the sun and even when we are not standing directly in front of the sun, we can still feel the effects. With increased technological advances, heater placement and oven design we are able to achieve a more even distribution of energy and that translates into better curing. Don't just take my work for it, send us some of your parts and we'll run them through our testing facility. |
"Infra-Red is not a good method for drying off parts." | Vulcan Catalytic Industrial Ovens produce long to medium wave infra-red energy. It is this particular intensity of infra-red that is easily absorbed by organic coatings such as powder and liquid as well as water. As a result, these coatings increase in temperature when exposed to catalytic heaters. Catalytic infra-red ovens are not suited for every dry off application, however, they are an excellent alternative regarding space and energy concerns in certain areas. |
"Heat is the same regardless of how it is applied, it takes the same amount of time to heat up and the same amount of time to cool down" | In any process whether you are cross linking powder, curing paint or drying water the main concern is getting Btu's into the coating. Since infra-red energy is absorbed first by the organic coating that is present on the part (e.g. powder, paint, water, etc.) we do not need to heat up the part in order to begin the intended process. It is also because of this that, quite often, the substrate cools much quicker too. |
